Statement from GUMS President
Griffith University may have a smaller medical school compared to some, but our Medical Student Society has a huge presence and an even bigger heart.
Each year, GUMS brings together a dedicated team of more than 50 medical students who volunteer their time, energy, and skills to improve the medical school experience for their peers. These students come from all stages of the program and all walks of life, united by a shared commitment to service, connection, and advocacy. Their work underpins much of what makes medical school not just survivable, but genuinely meaningful.
Medical student societies play a vital role in shaping the student experience. They create spaces where friendships are formed, leadership skills are developed, and voices are amplified. Through academic support initiatives, wellbeing programs, social events, and advocacy efforts, GUMS works to ensure students feel supported, represented, and heard throughout their training.
